I found the original recipe on NutriBullet’s NutriLiving blog, but I’ve tweaked it a bit to fit my picky palate. This yummy shake is the tastebud equivalent of eating blueberry vanilla ice cream. What a way to start the day!!
I love this shake so much it was a part of my morning routine for months and months. Now I just have to find some alternatives I love as much as this.
Blueberries have a ton of health benefits and bananas are loaded with potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Plus, almond milk is much lower in calories than cows milk + zero sugars, zero cholesterol, but with the added bonus of vitamin E. I buy Almond Breeze, Unsweetened Vanilla, and add in just a splash of vanilla extract to give it a little more taste of sweetness, without adding any sugar.
Off the charts! If you like ice cream and blueberries, you’re gonna love this!!
The key is to freeze your banana’s overnight. I typically buy a bunch, let them ripen a bit (because they are sweeter when they are ripe), peel em’, break em’ in halves (because it’s easier on my NutriBullet), and then I toss them all in a ziplock freezer baggie to use as needed.
I also keep my blueberries frozen as well. This cuts down on waste if I can’t eat them all in time and freezing both my banana’s and other fruits helps with the ice creamy texture in my shakes that I love so much.
INGREDIENTS:
- (1) Frozen Banana | $0.19 Trader Joes
- (1/4 cups) Walnuts | $5.99 Trader Joes
- (1/3 cups) Wild Blueberries | $1.99 Trader Joes
- (1/3 cups) Organic Steel Cut Oats | $3.49 Trader Joes
- (1 -1/2 cups) Almond Breeze, Unsweetened Vanilla | $ 1.99 Trader Joes
- (and, a splash of) Pure Bourbon Vanilla Extract | $8.99 Trader Joes
*All prices are calculated for the whole item. Afterall, you don’t go to the grocery store and ask for 1/4 cups of walnuts. You have to buy the whole bag. This way, if you don’t have the items in your pantry, you can plan ahead for the total cost instead of having to do the calculations yourself.
Blend together in your NutriBullet or blender for about 20 – 30 seconds, or until all ingredients are mingling together in a smooth creamy consistency.
I like to pour mine into a no stem wine glass with a thick rounded straw. The straw helps keep the blueberries from staining my teeth and almost everything tastes better out of a wine glass. I swear it’s true!
I even drink my water out of a wine glass. Try it…
With Love,
